Localforums.net

Posted by disona on January 20, 2009

Oh yeah, something new to think about.

LocalForums.net is looking to destroy the craigslist community by offering the exact same service with a newer and easier to use interface.

Craigslist, built on an old bbs environment, does not utilize the new Web 2.0 technology that allows for the users to benefit from the high speeds and low costs of bandwidth available. But here we have a new player in town. LocalForums.net

LocalForums.net is evolving daily into what can be considered EBay vs Craigslist system. It is suppose to have all the functions of Craigslist, allowing users unrestricted access to post items or services for purchase or for sale, allowing users to meet or find other people. However, LocalForums.net links users together for one huge network. Currently LocalForums only encompasses the United States but plans are to expand once the system is completely ready.

The EBay portion of LocalForums is allowing users to respond to a posting instead of communicating directly and solely through email. Having the ability to comment and vote on a particular post allows for less work on the user who created the post by allowing all users to see the question and answer. If the question is private, it still allows for messages to the users.

The following are a broad listing of topics to be included if not already with a brief description.

Date CardsLocalForums.net will allow users to create date cards with stats, a picture and a short description.

Sales – LocalForums.net will allow users to post any items they have for sale. Other users will be able to vote on these items which will allow for quicker catching of scams.

Buys – LocalForums.net will allow users to connect with sellers publicly or privately using the forums system.

CommunityLocalForums.net allows Churches, School Functions, Private Groups, Friends and other communities to create their own Private / Public Group.

Media SharingLocalForums.net will allow for members to post links to the top 10 video sharing site videos merely by pasting the video URL in their post.

Up and about

Posted by disona on August 13, 2008

I’ve been up and about working on plenty of new things in which I actually cannot talk about. I haven’t had much time to post any new reviews on here for products or projects that are up coming and worth the time or effort. Cuil was something that I should have looked into but I was entirely too busy to do so. Unfortunately for them, they flopped and had to rework their system. This project looks like it will be a very way to search alternatively since Google is now know for content spam and Yahoo has focused on directory than actually providing relevant searches. Hopefully, Cuil will fix their systems and actually index websites that matter so that I can continue to tell my friends to use their services. The community needs a search engine that works and doesn’t think it’s the biggest, baddest, only engine around.

Computer Repair project from GCAN Services

Posted by disona on August 2, 2008

The project that was formally Global computer Assistance Networking Services keeps the name but plays it down in a secondary way. I was told the reason for this move was because the name was too long and the acronym was already in use.

The Technical Assistance project has been moved to it’s permanent home on computer.assistance.co.mmunity.us.

They Co.mmunity.us is suppose to extend the original project and fulfill the obligation as an actual system much better. The base url mmunity.us can also be used for I.mmunity.us but I’m not sure how that will be linked to the system.

The first page of the Co.mmunity.us site is an interactive list of the 50 states from which you select 1 that you would like assistance. After you click you will be taken to a second list which contains the most popular serviced cities. If your city is not in the list you click the link at the top of the page to be taken to the original site which has a fairly extensive url: computer.assistance.co.mmunity.us. The url fits the project but I wouldn’t expect anyone to actually type that in. Maybe bookmark it after they’ve gone but that’s about it.

The final decision about this project which is NOW live is that it should do well and I’m looking for big things from the creators.

Review – Global Computer Assis…..

Posted by disona on July 23, 2008

That’s a really long name.

Ok, so the newest update with this project is the following.

GCANS has completed and finalized the layout and back-end of the main system.  They have completed the directory of communities in the United States.  They are currently including technical specialists of all sorts that match the categories on the site.  What we found interesting with the site was this.
The acronym is GCANS which they claim is Global Computer Assistance Networking System which ironically also is their funding company Groom’s Computer And Networking Services which is hosted on the same server.  They never deny this as if you drop the 8080 from the url you get their computer repair services.

We can’t say it’s sneaky because it would be rather interesting to pass this URI on verbally.  It seems as this project strives on the inbound links from the specialist they support.

We still think this is an awesome idea and will continue to follow the project as it grows and expands.

Here is a listing of categories that they have on their site.

Mac Specialists
Computer Techs
Laptop Experts
Personal Tutors
Troubleshooters
National Repair
Consultants
Coffee Addicts
LAN Designers
WAN Designers
Networkers
Wireless Security
Developers
PC Builders

This list doesn’t seem very large but keep in mind they are building a database of specialists for the entire united states.  They have well over 140,000 communities in the database that is need of specialists so in my opinion this list isn’t large enough.  This project could extend further than just the Technical Community.  Supporting computers and other technologies is very convenient since this project involves these technologies.

The project administrator, Shondal Groom of Groom’s Computer And Networking Services lets us know that
they will be launching the project as it’s completion towards the end of August.  They are hoping to have some outside funding to help with the marketing.  So if you are looking to donate some cash to this project you can contact him or the main office.
